The project brief was to design a metal object, with emphasis on using a professional manufacturer. I chose to design a tape dispenser with new user experience.
I decided to keep going with this idea, the next step was to explore a few different configurations and to start making models.
I searched for different kinds of connections between the tape roll to the dispenser while searching for form in side view variations.
First models for scaling and a general idea of form.
I found that I have to use a supporting leg to allow the dispenser to stand no matter the size of the tape roll.
During the modeling process I found this configuration that allowed me to control weather the tape is locked or free to roll. The inner tension between the spring steel and the inner tape roll makes this special effect.
A few more modifications and prototyping lead me to the final form.
